(a) A map
(b) Words lithographed
(c) Inscription on a stone
(d) A piece of metal with inscription that was used to cause fatal injury

Answer and Notes Answer is D

Explanation: Section 3 of Indian Evidence Act gives the definition of "document". According "to it the "document" means any matter expressed or described upon any substance by means of letters, figures or marks, or by more than one of those means, intended to be used or which may be used for the purpose of recording the matter. It must be noted that apart from other essential elements of the definition of "document" one of the most essential element is the "intention" to be used for purpose of recording the matter. In this question an inscription on a metal plate simplicities may be considered to be a document provided that it intended to record that inscription. However, the option clearly suggests that such metal plate was used to cause a fatal injury. Hence it cannot be said that it was intended to record the matter. This aspect takes such inscription on metal plate out of purview of definition of "document".
